Historical Sites In Hungary
Being a European country, Hungary offers the world one of the most breathtaking views into modern history. Most of the historical places that tourists are eager to visit are located in Budapest. However, places like Gyor also play an important role in this respect. The Pannonhalma Archabbey in Gyor dates back to 996 AD, when it came up as one of the biggest landmarks in northwest Hungary. It features as a World Heritage Site as well, and houses a 13th-Century gothic church, as well as a 19th Century library. Both of these were added later as part of the imposing structure that was founded as a Benedictine Monastery under Prince Geza. This made Hungary one of the oldest destinations for people from Rome, Bohemia and Germany. In the earlier days, the travlers mainly comprised monks from these places.
Matthias Church in Budapest is a more recent structure, but is also as old as the church in Pannonhalma Archabbey. Matthias Church came up in Budapest during the 13th Century. Since then, and till today, the structure is remarked as one of the biggest achievements in civil engineering and religious construction. Although most of the structure came about only in 1896, its 19th century paintings and the Loreto Chapel, which came up in 1515, play a major role in attracting large crowds. Today, its popularity as a historical destination continues to live through its organ concerts, and the Museum of Ecclesiastical Art. Surrounded by many popular hotels in a busy area of Budapest, the church is also one of the favorite destinations for kids during summers.
St. Stephen's Basilica is filled with grandeur. The very first sight of the building is enough to draw you into the construction. The place took 50 years to come up, and when it finally did, the basilica presented one of the most grand sights in Hungary. From the western side, the basilica is a rather flat surface structure with typical spires and a dome. However, the back face, which is visible from the structure's eastern end, offers photographers and tourists something to take back home as a genuine souvenir. The construction of this beautiful basilica is also associated with the death of two of its three main architects who died before the building came up in 1905. Known for its excellent classical architecture, the church also features neoclassical elements in its design. If you are visiting between July and October, organ concerts at the venue can be one of the major attractions during evenings.

The Buda Castle Quarter is one of the main reasons why Budapest has gained much historical importance through modern times. Such places of interest are also available along the Andrassy Avenue and the banks of Danube in Budapest. Other places in the country include Old Village of Holloko, Hortobagy Naitonal Park, and Early Christian Necropolis of Pecs.
Amongst these, Hortobagy National Park can be the most insightful destinations as it opens up stories from the earliest days of human settlement in the Great Plains of Europe. Amongst many of the populated areas on these great plains, present-day Hungary was an important part providing ample fertility and cattle growing opportunities in these cultural landscapes.
